July starts with the lake calendar. The holiday week is already moving, the tents are up, and the useful thing now is a clean look at what is happening when.

- Sunday, July 5: pickleball starts at 8:30 AM, disc golf shotgun start at 11 AM, and raffle prize pickup from 1-3 PM.

Store hours, raffle pickup, and the small details
The 4th of July Store is open at the Community Building during event week: Wednesday, July 1 from 5-7 PM; Thursday, July 2 from 5-7 PM; Friday, July 3 from 5-7 PM; and Saturday, July 4 from 8-10 AM.
Raffle prize winners can pick up items Sunday, July 5 from 1-3 PM. The official guide says cash, check, credit, debit, and Venmo are accepted at the store.
The practical lake-neighbor version: buy the food tickets and tasting cups before the rush if you already know you are going, tell guests where to park, and keep the no-outside-watercraft rule simple before anyone hauls gear toward the lake.

The current board also shows a new July 1 coming-soon second-tier option at 206 NW North Shore, plus two recent MOJO closings from June. That gives residents a cleaner July read: fresh inventory, recent results, and status movement all on one small lake board.
The July board is active enough to be useful, but still small enough that residents should read it listing by listing instead of leaning on a broad average.
The current MLS packet shows five active listings, one coming soon, one show-for-backups trophy listing, and two recent MOJO closings. That is a real spread: a $380,000 second-tier coming-soon home, multiple first-tier homes in the $400Ks to $700Ks, and a $1.65M lakefront listing already showing for backups.
The clean read: Lake Waukomis has options across the ladder, but status matters. Active, coming soon, show-for-backups, and sold listings should not be read the same way.
The resident takeaway: the board is still moving even with holiday week here, and the newest MOJO listing gives residents a fresh first-tier comp to watch.

The board has two fresh timing signals: 621 NW North Shore is a new MOJO active listing with 5 days on market, and 206 NW North Shore is set to hit active status July 1 as a coming-soon second-tier home.
Recent MOJO closings also matter: 419 NW North Shore closed at $432,000, and 853 S Shore closed at $609,000 after only 6 cumulative days on market.

The Lake Waukomis Triangle strikes again
Lake mystery file: Kyle Carpenter and Ellis Morton searched for Dennis Disselhoff's missing trolling motor. The lake gave back rocks, trees, and a pontoon bimini top, but not the motor.
Every lake needs a tiny bit of myth, and this month the Lake Waukomis Triangle got the call. Kyle Carpenter and Ellis Morton spent two days searching for Dennis Disselhoff's missing trolling motor, including a dive from Ellis and a boat search from Kyle.
They found enough random lake-bottom evidence to prove the search was real. They just did not find the one piece everyone was looking for.
So if a trolling motor reappears next to your dock with a weird glow and a story to tell, you know who gets the first phone call.
Nearby July options after the tents come down
Concerts, markets, and easy Northland nights
The lake owns the first week. After that, keep the calendar close to Riverside, Parkville, and the Northland options that do not require a whole Kansas City production.
Schedules can shift, so use the venue links before you head out.
Kansas City still has World Cup fever
Kansas City has already had a real World Cup month at Arrowhead, listed as Kansas City Stadium during the tournament: Argentina beat Algeria 3-0, Ecuador and Curacao finished 0-0, the Netherlands beat Tunisia 3-1, and Algeria and Austria turned in a 3-3 draw.
The local brag is even better: KC2026 says all four teams based in the Kansas City region reached the knockout round: Argentina, England, the Netherlands, and Algeria.
Still ahead close to home: Colombia vs. Ghana plays Friday, July 3 at 8:30 PM at Kansas City Stadium, and Kansas City gets a quarterfinal Saturday, July 11 at 8 PM. For the no-ticket version, the FIFA Fan Festival runs through July 11, and Go North KC watch parties include Morton Amphitheater on July 3 and Macken Park on July 11.

When the river moved and the county line did not
From nearby history: Jason Smith shared the River Bend story, where the Missouri River changed course but the county line stayed behind.
This month’s flashback heads just east of the lake for one of those Northland facts that sounds made up until you see the map: River Bend sits north of today’s Missouri River, but it is still in Jackson County because the county line follows the old riverbed.
The original Highway 291 bridge was already standing over the new channel before the river was let in. The river moved. The county line did not. That is a tidy little sentence with a whole lot of history hiding under it.

A wet 30 days, then Fourth-week heat
+4.94" above normal for that 30-day window
The latest complete 30-day station window at Kansas City International, May 31 through June 29, came in almost five inches wetter than normal.
The month felt more wet than unusually hot: the 30-day average temperature was only about two-tenths of a degree above normal.
Through June 29, KCI is more than eight inches above normal for the year, which tracks with soft yards, fast growth, and runoff worries around the lake.

July outdoors note: frog season is open
The Missouri Department of Conservation lists green frog and bullfrog season from sunset June 30 through October 31. If your July nights include public-water fishing or hunting plans away from the lake, check the current MDC rules before you go.
For Lake Waukomis event week, keep the local rule simple for guests too: no outside watercraft, and any fishing gear, bait buckets, lifejackets, or related lake gear should be from Lake Waukomis or brand new.
